HISTORY

Samuel McCuskey started McCuskey Construction Consultants in August 1995, after completing the California Center for the Arts in Escondido. Sam McCuskey served as the Project Director for the Center for the Arts for six years, from January 1989, the beginning of the design phase, through the resolution of all issues in August 1995.

McCuskey Construction Consultants accomplished many diverse assignments during the first five years. Their initial work consisted primarily of construction claims and dispute resolution. Wherever possible, they acted as construction referees and guided the parties to equitable resolutions of their disputes. McCuskey Construction Consultants applied their knowledge of construction contracts and conditions while representing Owners, General Contractors and Subcontractors in construction disputes and other issues.

McCuskey's knowledge of disputes and construction issues led to proactive consulting work. Clients realized it was more productive to contract with McCuskey Construction Consultants to prevent problems. McCuskey Construction Consultants reviewed the general and special conditions of the contract, prepared Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis, reviewed drawings for constructability, coordinated multi-disciplinary reviews during design phase, prepared multiple prime bid packages, and reviewed specifications and drawings for multiple prime awards. In addition, McCuskey Construction Consultants trained employees of general contractors and subcontractors in Project Management processes, drafted procedures manuals, prepared business plans, developed and implemented Total Quality Management (TQM) programs and developed strategic management plans.

McCuskey Construction Consultants became incorporated as McCuskey Group, Inc. in October of 1999. McCuskey Group (MCG) has provided staff augmentation for several clients by serving as an Owner's Representative or as a Senior Project Manager, overseeing and guiding the company's project managers.

In 2001, MCG was Construction Manager for BAE Systems; a 30 million dollar project, and was selected to manage the Public Safety Facilities for the City of Escondido. Continuing with the City of Escondido, we are currently the Construction Manager for the City’s new Police and Fire Facility, a project totaling 60 million.
